Weddings in India

Me in cool blue saree and my dear sister-in-law in shimmering red,my elder Brother is sitting behind us wearing a cap.Its my eldest son Ravi's Reception.
Weddings in India are a costly affair not because of Dowry but as we have to spent a lot on Food and entertaining guests besides giving close relatives gifts.Neighbors though are solely concerned with eating, they would keep hungry for the day and as soon as dinner is announced they will pounce on food like hungry dogs.Children are the most happy lot in weddings, just happy with wearing nice clothes, meeting friends, playing and running around and mostly eating "Chats",ice-creams and chowmein.Very few of the relatives and friends stay on to see the full ceremony which may continue till early morning. Its no guarantee that if you spent a lot of money caterer would provide good food. Many times you have to personally monitor them.

Yes, there are some people who go to weddings just for eating and having free food, But you can`t say that everyone visit weddings with the same intent. People in India love weddings. They visit wedding ceremonies to be a part of the glamour, splendor and magnificence associated with weddings.Recently I attended the wedding of my colleague with whom I work together at http://www.servelsecurity.net/ . And I am sure that I didn`t attend his marriage ceremony just for the sake of eating and having free food:)))).

    With love and regards,

    Pankaj.

  2. people do go to weddings for free food and drinks. They buy a cheap gift or chip in on a gift with another person or group of people just so they can feel like they deserve the free food and drinks. There is often a band and dancing so it's a cheap night out especially if you have kids. Yes in deed there are people who actually do this and they do not think there is anything wrong with it.

    Yes, some people do that.
My family was invited to a distant family member's wedding. We had never even met them before. It was a good opportunity to have a good evening out, dress up, dance, eat and drink for free, meet family members and socialize with people we'd never met before.
Most guests will be at a wedding because they know/care about the couple and their happiness. But if you aren't close to the bride and groom and still receive an invite... you are doing nothing wrong by taking them up on the offer!
